To end our Comikaze coverage this week, we bring you Malevolent! The new animated horror movie starring Morena Baccarin (Firefly, Homeland, Deadpool), William Shatner (I’m not even going to put his credits here), and Ray Wise (Twin Peaks, Reaper, Mad Men) combines Saw with Groundhog Day.

Psychotic father Cyrus (Wise) decides to kill his entire family as he blames them for his political failure. Daughter Miriam (Dani Lennon) is the lone survivor after all her siblings are brutally murdered. And that’s where the movie STARTS. Enter the Gamemaster (Baccarin) who sends Miriam back to do it all over again. This time with a) foresight of what is happening and b) new challenges created by the Gamemaster. The Gamemaster is essentially an inter-galactic bookie, running a gambling business based on whether or not people, in this case Miriam, survive horrible scenarios. Imagine Running Man meets Hunger Games. Check out the trailer:

IMAG0768For a little taste, in one scene, a girl is tied to a chair and in order to avoid having her head chopped off, she needs to bleed into a tray one ounce of blood every sixty seconds. Her hands are free and she is given a scalpel to cut herself. Dark, creepy, twisted. One wonders what type of brain imagines these things. In this case, the answer is simple, Jim and Tanya.

IMAG0769The movie was not necessarily always going to be animated, but going animated meant writers Jim Cirile and Tanya C. Klein could go bigger and badder. There’s a full wall-length shark tank that would not have been possible without animation. Animation has allowed this movie to truly evolve into what it was meant to be, a graphic intense thriller.

The movie is still deciding on its distribution form but we will be seeing it released either VOD, DVD/Blu-ray, or other. One thing for sure, I’ll be eagerly awaiting the arrival of this one! Keep updated here: http://malevolentmovie.com/
